Comprehensive Cyber Liability Insurance for Modern Businesses

cyber
Modern organizations run on digital infrastructure, connected operational systems, and cloud databases. That reliance exposes companies of every size to threats that did not exist a generation ago, and cybercrime is now among the largest financial and operational risks facing commercial enterprises.

Palomar provides cyber liability insurance designed to limit financial loss, protect digital assets, and guide your business through recovery when something goes wrong.

Why your general liability policy will not cover this

A single data breach, ransomware infection, or social engineering scheme can halt operations, expose confidential data, and generate hundreds of thousands of dollars in emergency response costs.

Most commercial general liability policies explicitly exclude electronic data breaches and network disruptions. Standard CGL forms carry electronic data exclusions and access-or-disclosure exclusions that were written specifically to push this exposure out of the policy. Businesses that assume their general liability responds to a cyber event are frequently wrong, and they find out at the worst moment.

Cyber coverage addresses a distinct set of threats:

Ransomware and extortion. Extortion demands, data restoration costs, and system recovery following an attack.

Phishing and business email compromise. Wire fraud and social engineering schemes designed to manipulate staff into unauthorized transfers. This is now one of the most common losses we see, and it does not require any technical breach at all — just a convincing email.

Data theft and privacy breaches. Defense and notification costs when customer records, employee personally identifiable information, or confidential corporate data are stolen.

Business interruption. Lost operating income and continuing payroll during extended network downtime caused by a cyber event.

What a well-structured cyber policy includes

We build programs incorporating both first-party and third-party coverage.

First-party coverage addresses direct losses to your own organization: computer forensic investigation, crisis communications, data recovery, business interruption income, and extortion payments.

Third-party liability responds when a breach on your network affects others: legal defense, regulatory defense costs and fines where insurable by law, forensic auditing, and settlement costs if customers or vendors bring claims.

Pre-event risk mitigation. Access to risk assessment tools, vulnerability scanning, and security guidance to strengthen your defenses before an attack — which is also increasingly what underwriters want to see before they will offer terms at all.

Work with a specialist

Cyber is not a coverage to buy on price. Forms vary widely, exclusions matter, and the difference between a policy that responds and one that does not is often language most buyers never read.

Palomar’s risk consulting team works directly with your leadership and IT staff to audit digital exposures, identify gaps, and structure coverage around your industry’s actual requirements.

Whether you operate in transportation, agribusiness, construction, healthcare, or professional services, protecting your digital infrastructure is part of protecting your balance sheet.
